Former North Adams man charged with rape of a child to see jail time

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. - A former North Adams man was found guilty of rape of a child with force Thursday after a three hour jury deliberation.

According to the Berkshire District Attorney’s Office, 37-year-old Wayne R. King of Sandown, N.H. was sentenced Thursday in Berkshire Superior Court.

He was found guilty of rape of a child with force and was ordered to serve 8 to 10 years in state prison in the Massachusetts Correctional Institution at Cedar Junction.

King sexually assaulted a now 16-year-old girl in North Adams between June, 9 2000 and Dec. 17, 2004.

The investigation was conducted by members of the North Adams Police Department.

Lee man arraigned on drug charges

A Lee man was recently arraigned in Berkshire Superior Court on drug charges.  The Berkshire County District Attorney’s Office says 27-year-old Robin Connors a/k/a Robin M. Connors-Valenti of East Street pled not guilty to 1 count of possession of heroin with intent to distribute, 1 count of distribution of heroin, 1 count of drug violation within a drug free school zone, and 1 count of conspiracy to violate drug laws.

Connors will be held at the Berkshire County House of Correction on $5,000 cash or $50,000 surety bail. 

The charges stem from a motor vehicle stop in Lee on November 9, 2011. 

The investigation was conducted by members of the Lee Police Department and state troopers assigned to the District Attorney’s Office, members of the Berkshire County Drug Task Force.  

Mass. slaying suspect arraigned in Pittsfield

PITTSFIELD, Mass. - There’s an update on a murder case in Berkshire County we first told you about last week. The man arrested in South Carolina in connection with the murder of Nikolas Carnute is back in Pittsfield.

Twenty-five year-old Kurt Hudson was arraigned Friday morning on 1 count of murder. Police say he shot the 23-year-old Carnute on Wellington Avenue in Pittsfield. The have not released a potential motive for the shooting.

Hudson is being held in the Berkshire County jail without bail.

Suspect in Pittsfield robbery caught in Ohio

PITTSFIELD, Mass. (AP) - The alleged getaway driver in a brazen daytime robbery of a Pittsfield convenience store in October has been captured in Ohio.

Massachusetts authorities say Gregory Peltier was arrested last Wednesday at a home in the southern Ohio town of South Point.

The Berkshire Eagle reports that he has waived rendition and is expected to return to Pittsfield to face charges within days.

Pittsfield police say the 27-year-old Peltier drove the getaway car after a robbery Oct. 27 at O'Connell's Convenience Plus. A store employee was robbed by a masked man with what she believed was a gun as she headed to the bank to deposit $7,500.

The other man, Kareem Wright, has pleaded guilty and has been sentenced to seven to eight years in prison.

Pittsfield man pleads not guilty to armed robbery charge

A Pittsfield man was recently arraigned in Berkshire Superior Court on an armed robbery charge.  The Berkshire District Attorney’s Office says 24-year-old Matthew C. Demastrie of Clarendon Street pled not guilty in connection to an armed robbery at Angelina’s Submarine Shop on Wahconah Street  in Pittsfield on Nov. 1.  Demastrie is facing charges of armed robbery while masked.

He was released on $5,000 cash bail on the condition he stays away from the alleged victims and the sub shop.       

The investigation was conducted by members of the Pittsfield Police Department.

Pittsfield man pleads not guilty to sex assault charges

A Pittsfield man was arraigned Thursday afternoon in Berkshire Superior Court on sexual assault charges.  The Berkshire District Attorney’s Office says 20-year-old William Daniels, Jr. pled not guilty to 2 counts of rape and 1 count of indecent assault and battery on a person over the age of 14.  The DA says the alleged incidents occurred in Pittsfield between January 2 and April 1, 2011 to a 17-year-old girl. 

Daniels was released him on personal recognizance on the condition he have no contact with the victim.    

The investigation was conducted by members of the Pittsfield Police Department.

Mass. slaying suspect arrested in SC

PITTSFIELD, Mass. (AP) - An arrest has been made in the shooting death of a Pittsfield man.

The Berkshire District Attorney's office says 25-year-old Kurt Hudson was taken into custody in Columbia, S.C., on Tuesday night. Hudson is charged with the murder of 23-year-old Nikolas Carnute, who was found Sunday on a Pittsfield street. An autopsy found Carnute died from a single gunshot wound.

Hudson is being held as a fugitive in South Carolina while prosecutors seek his return to Massachusetts.
