Seminar being held on religous tolerance

GREAT BARRINGTON - On Wednesday, May 16, Hevreh of Southern Berkshire will be hosting a free, open-to-the-public talk with Dr. Andrew Cort about increasing spiritual and religous understanding, and promoting tolerance, justice, wisdom, and peace.

It will cover several topics such as the cuases and consequences of religous hatred, opening hearts and minds and reducing the incidence of hate crimes, and interfaith cooperation and trust.

The talk begins at 7:30p at Hevreh on 270 State Road.

Babysitter's Training to be held by Red Cross

Babysitter's Training to be held by Red Cross

The American Red Cross Northeastern New York Region (ARCNENY) will offer Babysitter’s Training to provide kids between 11 and 15 knowledge and skills they need to care for young children.

According to a statement, the course teaches kids how to care for infants and children, how to handle emergency situations, recognize safety and hygiene issues and communicate with parents.

"Spring and summer are the perfect times to take our Babysitter's Training, we are scheduling several dates between now and the fall," said Caroline Boardman, Communications Director for ARCNENY in a statement. "This course not only provides kids with an opportunity to become responsible caregivers, but more importantly, it prepares them to be good leaders, role models and budding entrepreneurs."

All training courses will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and include a lunch break. Students should dress in comfortable clothing and bring a pen or pencil and a lunch.

Alison Larkin host an afternoon tea

GREAT BARRINGTON - Local author and comedienne Alison LArkin will speak and read from her best selling novel The English American, on Saturday, May 19.

She was adopted by British parents at birth and raised in England and Africa. Alison later found her birth parents ans a new homeland.

There will be an afternoon tea following the reading.

The event is from 2-4p, and will be held at the CHP Health Center, 444 Stockbridge Road.

The Greatest Show on Earth has arrived

The Greatest Show on Earth arrived today with the ceremonial animal march. Ringling Bros and Barnum and Bailey Circus, now in their 141st year,  will be performing their newest show Fully Charged at the Times Union Center from May 2-6.

There is a special all access pre-show party. Everyone is invited to the arena floor one hour before showtime to meet the performers and animals.

You will even get the opportunity to see an elephant paint, then enter for your chance to win one of these masterpieces.

Blues competition to be held in Downtown Albany

ALBANY - On Friday, May 4, 13 blues acts will perform in various Downtown Albany Locations in a competition to determine who will perform at this years Live@ 5 Blues Night.

The bands will be performing from 5-9p. Spectators will vote.

The event is free and open to everyone.

How to survive the undead

PITTSFIELD - The Zombie Action Committe will be presenting an expert panel discussion on the subject of surviving the undead in fiction and theory. The discussion will be part of the inaugural BAM-Con, the Berkshire Anime & Manga Convention.

On Sunday, May 6, the panel will examine various practical and philosophical aspects of zombies and their survivalusing exampoles from anime as weel as book, film, and television.

The panel will include authors, musicians, artists, make-up artists and survivalists.

Global technology conference comes to Capital Region

Technology experts from around the world are coming to Albany later this year.

More than 60 countries will be taking part in the global conference on technology and government innovation.

It runs from October 22-25.

It's not only the first time this conference is being held in Albany, it will be the first time it's ever been held in the United States.
