Pittsfield youth baseball organization robbed
News

PITTSFIELD, Mass. (AP) - The baseball season is fast approaching and a Pittsfield youth league finds itself needing to replace up to $1,000 worth of gear after thieves broke into its storage area and stole hats, belts and socks.

Rich LeVardi, the vice president of Pittsfield West Little League, tells The Berkshire Eagle he showed up at the organization's field on Tuesday morning to find that vandals had pried open the door to the league's second-floor press box and made off with the equipment.

The theft could have been worse, but the uniform shirts that are usually stored in the press box had been sent back to the printer because of defective lettering.

The league had 72 kids between the ages of 9 and 12 on six teams last season.

Police are investigating.
